I had this image in my mind of brumbies running off in the distance and lots of texture and marks on the canvas to create interest but to leave the space completely free to really capture the horses without any other subject crowding their movement.

When I painted the left-hand side with colour, I felt as though the horses were ones that had survived the wildfires and are safely roaming the wide open plains, free of injury and alive to carry on their glorious lives, leaving the charred landscape behind to rejuvenate in due season
